Hee heeeee! I'm so :excited:

So this is the first finished piece of my silicone line. As you can see it really is a first cast, featuring many air bubbles. In fact I think the entire thing is more of an aero than a dairy milk. It's Zhermack ZA13 translucent silicone with a bit of flesh silicone pigment, painted with Galeria oil colours in a sort of 'dry brush' fashion - ie very little paint on the brush, rubbed on more than painted.

The airbubbles in the knuckles and palm I just had to turn into scabby things.. The cast itself didn't come out very well at all but as an experiment it worked fantastically - I'm so happy!

The grey fur is synthetic and was 'glued' on with silicone sealant (from poundland!) and the other fur is real deer hair, which I plan to use for the final outcome this experiment is for... The deer hair suffered the washing process the supplier put it through and became really brittle, so punching it in was quite hard. I found that large bunches punched repeatedly in the same place worked well, but I'm going to buy some other furs anyway to see if they can withstand the process more.

The other exciting thing is that I have new lights for my cardboard box desktop studio! I went home for the weekend for Easter (in Scotland the holidays are never over the actual day the holiday is for) and as my mum is redecorating/building her house we had a good blether about lights, lumen and lux! In the end we went to a DIY store and bought some lloydtron , 9W (=40W), GU10, 5600k energy saver bulbs. It didn't say what lumens they were on the pack (which is such a pain) but the very helpful shop assistant said they'd probably be around 850, which will do. I was hoping for 1000 but if I have two the spot where both lights shine should be about 2/3s. WHOO boring, I spent three hours researching this the other day, how much of a loser am I? :D But I find it interesting and now I know a lot about lightbulbs and light!

ANYWAY the long and the short of it is that this is the first photo using my new lights! And I'm SO happy with them!

Expect to see more silicone experiments soon! This is for my main uni project rather than fun (although in reality it's both - I love this sort of stuff).

Thanks for looking!

that's really cool, i think the bubbles are what my teacher would consider a happy accident as it seems even more interesting. I actually stumbled across this because i bought the same brand of silicone. i'm setting myself up for failure but im making a prop for a costume and i was wondering if you know what i can use to make the mould. the piece itself is simple, a long rectangular strip like a belt, but i have no idea what silicone reacts with so i dont know what i can build the mould out of. plastic? wood? clay? if you could let me know id be eternally grateful without this piece the costume is pretty much useless and im beginning to panic.
