This was a commission from ~Mimiru85 who wanted a Balrog from Lord of the Rings, except she wanted a baby fluffy version!

Does the amount of fun I had with this commission show?! He was AWESOME! I am so pleased with the glowy effects, and while the "fire" didn't turn out quite how I pictured it I'm still so happy.

Sculpting his face was a challenge but... I had a great time doing it.

I really want to keep him :'( Guess I'll just have to make myself one sometime. Oh I used my new airbrush on him too; What a perfect doll to use it on! :aww: Airbrushes are excellent, I don't know WHY I didn't get one earlier!

This is an art doll, so a toy with a wire armature and polymer clay head, hands and feet. There will be more pictures soon.

Thanks for looking!

^^^Got a question? Check there first to see if it's been answered. If it hasn't then ask away!^^^

My prices are currently under revision but a set pricelist will be released around December. As a rough guide a non-winged doll would be no less than £150/$240. The waiting list is currently stretching to March as well... If you're still interested then please send me a note! :boing:

the glowing lava "ripples" whatever they're called are unreal! It really looks like they're ignited with heat, just amazing! Do you think this would be possible with regular brushes too?
Great little Balrog, awesome attention to his design and anatomy :)

Thanks for your answer and you're welcome too :)
Can I ask you how you got into commissioning? Because I would love to be able to do what you do, I can't make dolls but I am learning to sculpt and I can draw/stylize and when you say people approach you with such and such an exciting idea that you both discussed and it being paid for,I'd really like that if it happened to me rather than just a boring photo to copy :( I'm working on creating a model of my rat atm, 2 baby griffins and cartoony bat and hopefully something fantasy I designed if I get round to it but really struggling to get people interested though I REALLY REALLY want to, I want people to know what I do and request something of their choice from me
I use fb atm because people know me there and at the most I get a trickle of commissions, more pencil portraits than anything but I want to do fantasy, do I just keep creating as I'm doing now and hope for the best? It's actually really draining but something is telling me that I can do it...just hasn't happened yet, or I must be going wrong
Sorry for the sudden essay I just really admire your work and how you do things so thought I might ask an expert and I'm pretty desperate..

I made a few dolls and got a lot of interest, then asked if anyone would be interested in commissions and got a couple of hits. Once I had finished those I got more and more people asking, and now I have a waiting list that's over 6 months long. Just keep doing what you love and make sure you do it well, make sure you take great photos and talk to lots of people. It'll happen eventually, but don't expect it to be fast :) and don't let it get you down.

There is something wonderfully wrong with the idea of a "baby Balrog"! I love this for some reason. I think I am very disturbed. ;P
