My half of an art trade with ! !!!I AM NOT OPEN FOR TRADE AT THE MOMENT.!!! Thank you so much for the interest but I don't have the time right now. I have pets to feed and for that I need real money
For my birthday I got emperor and cynthia moth cocoons! The emperors hatched a while ago but when I saw the first one (a male) I just had to make a doll. They are such beautiful little things, so fluffy and delicate! Safe to say I'm hooked on hatching.
You can find out more about hatching your own moths and butterflies on google (here's one: [link]) and you can buy cocoons (in Britain anyway) here: [link] They also sell cages, but it's easy to make your own cage! Butterflies by Robert Goodden has everything you'd need to know about raising butterflies and moths. If you do decide to go ahead and try it yourself LET ME KNOW! I'm really excited to see everyone's butterflies, cus loads of people have been interested in raising their own since I wrote those journals.
ANYWAY my dolls are handmade from scratch by me, I taught myself to do this with no professional help (I do have a degree but it's in illustration). I now make and sell these dolls and am starting up a business, so PLEASE don't ask me how to make them! It's not fair to ask me to divulge secrets on how I make money and it's really awkward turning people away.
My waiting list for commissions is open! BUT there are about 45 other people on it so it won't be some months before I get to you. Prices start at £150 and go up to £300 depending on complexity, colours and wing-type. Etc. Send me a note for a rough quote
One of my biology teachers (I looked after all his animals for him, quite a time consuming task, haha) had a bunch of moths at one point.
He had a group of Indian moon moths for a while. Those were my favourite. They were so pretty. He also had a few varieties of big silk moths and some death-head hawk moths at one point. The hawk moths were particularly neat, but I loved how fuzzy the silks were. <3
I'd love to really get into moths but some of them need really specific light and humidity. Indian moon moths are so beautiful, I had one when I was little
Ah, it's just setting it all up that's tricky (and sometimes expensive, haha), but once that's done and sorted and working, it's not so bad. :3 I'm caught between getting myself some moths or a crested gecko next, haha. I would love to have some moths at some point though. Big fuzzy moths.
Well with moths you have a high turnover I thought about raising moths for art, so hatching them and then pinning them to use as inspiration. I hatched some emperor moths at Christmas time and they were so beautiful I had to make a creature-inspired doll of one, now I want lots so each one that hatches is a new project, a new beautiful object.
