FOR SALE - Helaku

Helaku is Liwanu's sister! I mucked up delivery times and the next 3 commissions all need the same fur so I had a couple of days spare, so I made Helaku. I love her red feathers, they have a seriously stunning green iridescent sheen to them in the right light. She also has inset taxidermy eyes, which is a first for me. A lot of people have suggested I try using pre-made eyes and I'm so stubborn I keep saying I'll make my own resin eyes, but I bought these a while ago and it was time to use them.

Anyway, what I'm sure most of you are excited to hear: she's for sale! Also heralding my first eBay auction! scenceable suggested it, seeing as I'm revising my prices it would be a good idea to see what they're averaging at. She'll be up for auction for the next ten days.

I make my dolls entirely from scratch. From a roll of wire and a pink lump of fimo I work them into my dolls, it has taken me years to learn how to make these and it is a very rare and unique craft (there are only a few people on DA who make these and we are very specialised). I start by making a wire armature, then sculpt fimo (a polymer clay) onto it, that makes the head and legs. Once the fimo has been baked then I wrap the armature in stuffing, measure a pattern and then cut the fur. I hand sew the fur around the armature, then add embellishments like feathers and scales so that in the next step I can match the colours. I then paint my creation carefully using tiny paintbrushes and an airbrush, using high quality acrylic paints. The last step is to varnish the clay to make sure the paint doesn't come off and to add a realistic gloss to eyes and scales.
