This is a commission for a harpy eagle, pangolin and dutch landrace goat combination! What a cool cross! I wasn't sure about how to do the scales until I was browsing and saw :icondemiveemon:'s incredible pangolin toy: [link] It gave me the confidence to tackle all those scales AND sew them out of suede! If she had the gumption to make that entire pangolin from suede then I could hardly turn my nose up at sewing 40-odd scales on. ^_^ So thank you *demiveemon

Another cool thing about this doll is that back when I made one of the first dolls :iconmammalfeathers: was a huge help describing methods to me, and even has a slideshow of WIP pictures of a gryphon she made as an Alice in Wonderland tribute. I swear I studied that video, watching it again and again, desperate to learn all the techniques! Anyway one of the fabrics she used for it was this beautiful curly sheep wool fur and I have been DESPERATE to get my hands on some ever since I saw it. Can you imagine how excited I was when I saw my usual fur supplier had new stock in and one was THE beautiful curly fabric?! So don't be surprised if a whole plethora of dolls appeal with this curly fur, I absolutely love it.

More airbrushing... I wasn't sure about colours until I painted the copper edges to the scales (one of the last things I did) and suddenly everything came together. :boing:

If you would like to commission me please send me a note and we can chat about prices and the waiting list. A non-winged doll like this would be £150.

He reminds me of the Griffon from Jim Henson's The Storyteller. Scritch, scratch!

:D Thanks! My uncle had a lot to do with producing The Storyteller, but it was before I was born.

Nooooooo! I'm very jealous, I'm the first visual artist in our family, it must be fun to have those kind of roots

Well it was a nice surprise one Christmas when I was babbling to him about how brilliant Ron Mueck's latest gallery tour was, when he said "Oh I knew him when I was doing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He's a really nice guy, he made me a pig." Pretty mind blowing.
He's the biggest creative you could ever come across, but what an eccentric character :D We don't meet up much seeing as he lives at the other end of the country, but it's nice to know he's in the fam. hasn't been employed for a good 7 years tho what with the recession :/

Okay, but you live in Britian, the other side of the country is only so far away.

Yay, you made it! :D
It's an utterly weird animal-cross, but you did a great work and the scales came out nicely too. Was it hard to attach them? Wile working on Willy I noticed there was a major difference when sewing the scales on, depending on if the underlying fabric was curved ( due to the bodypart being sewed, stuffed and enclosed, compared to areas where I still had access to both sides of the textile and simply could press the needle straight through, instead of working at an angle). Dx *soar fingers*
