Heilan Coos! by Magweno Heilan Coos! by Magweno
Now available on Etsy, £18 + P&P!

Och aye the noo, who here likes heilan coos? I do!

These wee highland cow balls have been made in my garden studio on the coast of Scotland as a nod to our much loved unofficial country mascot. I feel an affinity to highland cows because most of them have the same hair colour as me.

Heilan coos would make a fantastic gift for the Scotland-lover, aspiring farmer or cow fanatic in your circle of family and friends. Real cows need masses of space and make a huge mess, heilan coos fit in the palm of your hand and are quite happy sitting on a desk.

They have hard resin noses and horns that have been painted with acrylics and then varnished. Their bodies are fake fur and stuffed with yellow split peas for a nice squashy weight!

As each has been hand made they are all unique. Each nose cast had different amounts of dye added, so no two noses are the same shade of pink. Some have spots on their noses, some have wonky horns, some are a bit squashier than others… Much like real cows!

This is a limited batch of 13.

They weigh about 120g and measure approximately 3.5" in diameter.

Cows not your thing? Check out the alpacas in my other listing! Got a suggestion for another animal ball? I'd love to hear it!

Thanks for looking :)

You should make squirrel balls! (okay that sounds weird...) Make them with little squirrel faces and the bushy little tails! That would be so adorable! XD (Just a suggestion)

Ahahaha, those are just too adorable. ^^ I did panic a little when I saw the thumbnail and thought you'd made a flock of Wig Wigs from The Edge Chronicles! theedgechronicles.wikia.com/wi...

When I met some model horse people at a live show for the first time I was really nervous because although I'd known them online for years, this was the first time I'd actually get to talk to them in person. I needn't have worried 'cos the first thing anyone asked me to do was simply to say 'highland cow' because they wanted to hear an actual Scottish person say it. XD English people, honestly :P

Omg those things are great!! I really want to make some hah, I've never heard of those books though and they sound brilliant, I wonder if there's an audiobook version.. :o

Haha that's hilarious, I know I have my bfs family in stitches whenever i put on a scottish accent. They crack me up though because they're all geordies and it's impossible to type out the accent but it's so funny, everything has a cheerful upwards inflection and it just makes me grin

I think they do have audiobooks actually! The only downside is of course that you'd miss out on all the wonderful illustrations!

I'd love to make a Banderbear because, well, just look at them! :D

LOL, yes, Geordie accents really are something else!

I was thinking the same thing! Her birthday isn't for a bit longer, so I'll have to see what kind of budget I have for gifts and such, but I'm expecting that this will be alright to buy. If not for her birthday, then Christmas.

Nope no eyes :D Just horns and a nose.

Yeah I think they both have their charms! Some people are a bit creeped out by the alpackins but the coos are just charming imo! :aww:

Its odd, though. I've lived in Scotland for about eight years now and seen so few heilan coos. Only odd little family groups as pets.

Unless this is the next stage in their evolution...

I once heard that the Scottish government was handing out grants to people who had highland cows near main roads because it boosted tourism, but I just got laughed at when I asked a farmer about that :D

Scottish animals are a bit weird like that though, when I lived over on the west coast I met a lot of hikers expecting to see deer everywhere and they were always inevitably disappointed at not seeing stags crawling all over every mountain. If you're gonna wear fluorescent orange waterproofs you aint gonna see any deer mate! Haha

I'll have cows! Give me a grant!

I haven't been west coast way, yet. I'm stuck in Aberdeen at the mo. I'd like to go, though, it looks beautiful.
Strangely, we get a lot of deer around here. There's a few times I've seen one or two ambling around the busy suburbs of Stonehaven.

"Don't mind me. I'm just a deer. Carry on."

Oh cool I'm about an hour from Aberdeen atm! ^_^ Wouldn't have expected to see deer around Stonehaven, that's a bit mad! Although I have seen the bison at Muchalls haha

I'm pretty much smack bang in the middle between Aberdeen and Dundee, so about half an hour from each. If in the middle of nowhere :/ The first time I saw the bison at muchalls I was like wth... For so long, no-one else believed them to be there. I'm glad someone else has seen the phantom bison!
