Mofs by Magweno Mofs by Magweno
Ahhh the mofs have been released! Don't worry they're not the get-stuck-in-your-hair, eat-your-clothes type of moths. They're the giant, squashy, huggable, brighten-your-day kind.

Each mof (and we could say moth but where's the fun in that?) has been designed, sculpted, moulded, cast and painted by me. I also made the patterns, cut the fabric, sewed it all together, attached the heads, hands and feet to the bodies, sewed and painted the wings, took photos, wrote descriptions and priced them all up. On my own. In a week! I'm feeling pretty good about that! As a result they're the fastest doll I can produce currently, until I get some help.

Gotta get some sleep...

I'd love to hear what you think!

Oh and... a few of them are for sale. ;)

I have motephobia, or fear of moths, and looking at these for a few minutes at a time is helping me get over being afraid of them! These guys are just too cute to ignore. :> Thank you.

These are really cute. I like how the variation of the colors makes each one an individual even though they are the same pattern.

It's a horde of moths! They're invading! I'm not sure that's a bad thing!

Seriously, they're too cute to be mad at for invading. It's like being invaded by kittens. Who'd complain?

Until they start pinching your socks to make comfy beds and stealing food from the fridge

And then when you catch them, they just give you the cutesy eyes and you're too busy going "d'awwwwwwww" to be mad at them. Sneaky bastards.

I've never suffered from mothpocalypses but we see a lot of ringlets and six spot burnet moths up here. I think we're a bit too close to the coast for moths to thrive.

Gah you make me like moths! But those ones don't look scary like the tiny little devils we get here. So adorable

I raised moths when I was little so I've never been afraid of them. They're so fuzzy and adorable how can they be scary! :D

I had an unfortunate run in with one once that resulted in a rude wake-up call and a tiny moth stuck up my nose. Let's leave it at that :XD:

I really like some of the designs and actual moths you modeled these off of. My lepidoptera collection actually has a few leopard moths, the white one you have shown here.

Yep he was based on a Giant Leopard Moth quite closely and even has the iridescent spots on the head that they have. The pink and yellow one is roughly based on a Rosy Maple Moth. I'm definitely going to do more 'based on' moths, but the random ones help me use up scraps of fabric that I don't have enough of for a whole moth.

Well, I think they look outstanding. If you ever need more ideas, there are some great moths, though I'm lacking them myself: such as the polyphemus moth, luna moth, io moth, and the cecropia moth.
I think the way you're making these is so neat. They're turning out adorably attractive.

Ahh there's this website that sells cocoons and I raised some when I was younger and now I'm just so desperate to buy more and hatch them, moth photos are great but nothing compared to the real thing! Gotta get a greenhouse before I can get the temperatures right though...
