Tamsin by Magweno Tamsin by Magweno
~edoseck commissioned Tamsin here. She described what she wanted and sent me a sketch and I drew the picture in the top left corner, then made the doll!

She has a fimo head, feet and tail, but the bones down her back and on her side are plastic. Her body is trimmed fake fur and she has a wire "skeleton" running throughout that allows her to be posed. The red and white fleshy bits are latex.

Her tail is made of ball and socket joints with wire running through so it can be posed. I have a gif stop motion animation of it wagging here.

The spines have been sewn on at the base so they aren't floppy but aren't stiff, makes it easier to pack her up for shipping as well as ensure they aren't brittle when being played with.

She was a lot of work but so FUN and rewarding! I really loved making her, a very welcome turn from what I usually make too. Although I did get a comment saying she was CUTE! I can make a half-skeleton-half-wolf hell monster and it STILL comes out cute... How...

I'm open for commission, send me a note for a quote and info about the waiting list!

I also have an Etsy shop here you might be interested in

How did you adhere the ribs? Just glue? O: I'm impressed you had the patience to use latex! No one really uses that that I've seen.

They've been sewn and glued for stability.
Hehe when te commissioner described what she wanted I got really excited by the prospect of using latex to do muscly bits. I use it for making dragon wings but flesh is a refreshing change.

Does latex ever dry and crumble? Wings are a great idea for it. I'm too chicken and would end up just sewing fabric, lol.

I think it gets brittle if its left out in the sun but I explain that to everyone who has dolls with latex parts. It's also a natural product and will rot if it's left wet, but really these things shouldn't get wet in the first place.

I never thought much about water on latex, but then again I never thought about getting a doll wet. If someone spends that time/effort on something, I'd be super careful. I'm glad someone thinks of these things though XD

Magweno this is FANTASTIC! This is my absolute favorite of all your dolls! Out of curiosity, how did you attach the ribs without it limiting the movement of the doll? Are they too made from clay? Completely understandable if you want to keep it to yourself :)

They're plastic sewn to the fur, so they move with the fabric rather than protruding from the basic armature.

I think I commented on this one on the journal featuring the gif, but I forgot to add that I just love how the skull came out. It's really, really cool. And realistic. I love the tiny cracks in it!

OMG he is awful! In a good way of course!
I would never be able to sleep after looking this in real person!
The latex muscle is incredible! I hope someday somebody commission a doll for you entirelly from latex muscle! Would be amazing to see! Of course the tail idea is also genius.
It is a very difficult project, you really accept anything people can ask you! I can't do the same!
Congrats!

It would be interesting to make a doll entirely from latex like that, I was kind of testing the water by just doing the legs here. It's definitely something I think I should try, especially with dragons!
Hehe I could have made it simpler for myself but... Then there's no challenge ^_^

Tamsin has gone wild, she's been SO popular, I'm definitely making more skeleton/muscle creatures! I want to make an undead rabbit for some reason, and I think zombie horses and unicorns would go down a storm too... And they all need articulated tails and hinged jaws ^_^ Thanks for letting me know you like her so much, DEFINITELY not my bag, but I'm super pleased to see so many people like her!

simply WOW
the bones and latex are amazing!
it honestly looks like you've slapped a mini steak on her neck lol

do you mind me asking what are the ball joints? I know what ball joint in in terms of BJD but I cant envisage or google how it would be used in this kind of senario? I did find some amazing plastic bone armature though [link] of course nothing like that available over here -bah.
I'm trying to find an armature that is stiff to hold a position but movable for puppets so something better than wire that needs real manipulation :hmm:
