I stumbled upon your art dolls while looking for fox plushies on Etsy, and let me say your work is ABSOLUTELY beautiful! It's my dream to get a dragon fox of yours, but it will take a while to convince my mother and to collect the cash. How long do you think you will be making custom dragon foxes?

Aw gosh thanks so much, what a lovely comment

Dragon foxes seem to be gathering in popularity lately and if something's popular I will always make it! The moulds have quite a bit of life in them yet as well, so they will be around for a while. :)

I just found you on DA and maaan you are such a great artist! I also wanna thank you hugely for your tutorials on doll making. I have been sitting for months and figured out a way to do it (guessing wildly by looking close at different dolls) and then I stumbled upon your tutorials and I got really happy because there have been some parts Ive been unsure about and now I know how it can be done! I have a a little collecttion of pre-made heads and feet but never dared to continue with the bodys since I was sure "my method" was wrong, but now I feel I really can finish them! :happybounce: :tighthug:  Thank you deeply! Also for telling where to buy fur AND not to forget, how to mold and cast! May I just ask about your dragon-foxes dragon - isnt it hard to get all the angles and shapes and details right when making the mould? That is something I never understood. How you could get an exact print in the mould, especally with the ears. And feet. O_O Anyway and once again, thank you SO much for all the help! My dream of making dolls can finally come true! :la: :tighthug:
PS: Love your dragon foxes! They are super cute! (I have a little baby dragon head reminding of them... well not really much, but it has such "plates" on the nose and under the eyes. :giggle: And now I can finally finish him!)

The DFs are moulded in silicone which has a much higher tear strength than gelatine. It's very forgiving when it comes to undercuts and retains high detail well, and has a longer shelf life. Sometimes with tricky and delicate shapes like antlers you have to make a very complex mould though, with sprues and vents and gates and things like that :)

Thank you SO much for the response! If I make a mould Im thinking of only replicate the face of the creatures, the ears and horns and such I was thinking of always create anew and different. I was worried about the nose and eyes, but if undercuts work Im all happy!  Also, just one more thing, if I make a mould in silicone, will the first head that I created the mould from get damaged and destroyed when I remove it?  Once again thank you SO very much!!! You dont know how much this mean to me! :tighthug:

It depends what you make it from, I've been using a reusable clay called Chavant. You can sculpt it, make a mould, then melt it down and sculpt something else, and with that it's almost always destroyed or damaged while being removed from the mould. If your mould is good enough it doesn't matter though. If you keep the first or second cast you can always make another mould of it, although it makes everything quite limited as detail is always lost with each new cast.

If you are using a baked polymer clay like sculpey or fimo, unless it has delicate bits that get twisted when being removed, it should come out in one piece.

Salut Magweno !
Bonne continuation.
