Wings

I'm never satisfied with the feather wings I make, I am CONSTANTLY tweaking and trying to improve them, honestly it's become a bit of an obsession over the past year. I spend TOO much time doing it. But the fantastic suchacat has commissioned a winged doll and gave me the go-ahead to spend a bit of extra time working on another new mechanism. I've been experimenting over the past month and finally got to the stage of actually producing a pair of wings over the past couple of days and I am SO pleased with how they're turning out!

They are manually operated, my finger is hidden at the base. They are design to be moved by the first primary or by the last secondary to minimise feather distortion. They move easily and smoothly, the feathers put themselves in place and sit nicely... They can be folded and unfolded as well as moved up and down, forwards and backwards.

The extra excellent part is that they have the potential to be sold as a whole piece, they don't need to be attached to a doll to function, so I can make sets to fit BJDs! Something I get asked to produce regularly but never knew how. I'd need funding to work on it so when I have some free time I may set up a kickstarter or send out a call for support and parts.

I'm just pretty excited by it all. It's a much bigger step forward than before. I'm afraid I won't be making a tutorial or writing any instructions on how to make them, it's a hugely experimental thing and if it does go pear shaped I don't want to have sent loads of people down the wrong road! 

I also gotta give a shout out to Shadow-and-Flame-86 for sending me the GBB Gull feathers a while ago and to Excess for sending me the gorgeous maccaw feathers!
